You’ve probably heard that one—many times. Your ears buzz with the same phrase after your parents constantly tell you to study and actually care about it—not like, “I got 100%. I have nothing else to learn.” or something similar. Believe me, I get it. I was in the same place. (Let me clarify that you’re studying no matter your age.) I thought that I can do whatever I want and care less about my grades. Well, it didn't last long before I understood my stupidity. But I’m not your mother. And you’re not in school—or maybe you are. Who knows?
In the course of our life, we stumble across many challenges: from simple to nearly impossible to overcome. (Is there such a thing as impossible? Will see.) And during our entire life, we learn no matter if it's in kindergarten, college, or during your retirement. We just can’t help it. You find an article, read it, and learn something new. The only difference is if someone shoveled that article to your face or you searched across the web to learn new information about a subject. Yep, it’s that simple. You either want it and you learn, or you don’t want it and you still learn—but significantly less. Sounds absurd but it’s true if you think about it.
What about laziness? you may ask. Well, I do hope they’ll create a pill to get rid of that monster once and for all. Okay, I’m kidding. Laziness actually plays an important role in your life. Yes, you read it correctly. It IS important. Why? you may ask. First of all, it’s thanks to laziness you are not constantly multitasking, that you are prioritizing tasks in order of importance. To simply put, you are working more efficiently. And thanks to laziness you decide to take a break from work and relax, take a nap, watch an episode, let your mind take a break from the work you were doing. Job burnouts aren't pretty. Believe me.
But—that’s a big but in here—laziness is a double-edged sword. It can take control over you and then...you get it. I like to call it a couch potato: the longer you procrastinate, giving up to that laziness, the harder it will be for you to start actually doing something. Fight it, then take control and you’ll see how your life will change.
Let’s get back to the part about learning. Why is it important? Well… Everyone wants to be successful and in order to excel in whatever career path you choose, you need to learn. A lot! But the important part is that you have to WANT it as your life depends on it. Because, being honest, it does.
